December
December in Amsterdam is the rainiest month of the year, and one of the coldest. But the city is especially beautiful during the holiday season. Snow is unlikely, but the marine climate, in winds and rain, can feel bitingly cold.
There’s usually only about eight hours of sunlight per day in Amsterdam in December, so you’ll want to come ready for very cold nights. Long thermal underwear, gloves, a heavy coat, layered long-sleeved shirts, a scarf, comfortable shoes, earmuffs and hats should be considered required materials. With averages of over three inches of rain in December, the visitor to Amsterdam would be very wise to bring along an umbrella. This is a wonderful time to visit to see the old city lit up for Christmas and walk along its pristine canals.
The average high temperature in an Amsterdam December is º44 (F)/º6 (C). The average lows are º36/º2, with an overall average temperature of º40/º4. Every December there are on average 10 days below freezing.

Hey Dude, my best advice to you is to avoid any places which are near the Dam square. Those are tourist traps.
