Shopping

Amsterdam is a thriving city that caters to a number of tastes and interests. And this is reflected in the various shopping areas which boast a variety of books, clothes, music records and various collectibles.

First, there is the area from Nieuwedijk to Kalverstraat. Call it one big shopping street where there are no vehicles zooming about and is simply bustling with pedestrians. If you are looking for the trendy goods, latest music or brand clothes, this is the place for you. For some great deals, check out Fame, popular CD shop that sells many items on discount. Address: Kalverstraat 2-4 -1012 PC Amsterdam.

Then there is the Dam Square Area. This area is equally busy (with pedestrians as well as vehicles) and boasts a wide range of shops, from fashion items and accessories to specialist shops. For instance, collectors of fantasy paraphernalia will be delighted with Fantasy Shop Chimera in this area.

A trip to Netherlands will be incomplete without checking out the beautiful Dutch tulips. A good stop to check out bulbs and other blooming wonders is on the Bloemenmarkt(Flower market) near Muntplein. Note, this is the only floating flower market in the world.

The numerous weekly markets held in Amsterdam are also noteworthy for the shopaholic. The Art Plein Spui is great for art lovers; there is live music playing and you get to peruse local artwork, perhaps meet the artist. Check out Art Plein for more information.

If you are looking for a good bargain, check out Dapper Market. Voted the best Street Market in 2007-2008, this quaint market offers many interesting items for sale – most of which are just under Euro 1. Food, clothes, cosmetics, it’s all here. The market is usually held at Dapperstraat, 1093 BT Amsterdam. Find out more at Dapper Market website.
