I would opt for April 2012. Weather is nice and it's not too crowded. March is a bit cold and August will be crowded with many tourists and expensive accommodation. You can basically visit most of Central and western Europe from Amsterdam so take your pick. There are trains to big cities in Germany, Copenhagen, Brussels.. Hi Lyn!
