Burger restaurants

Amsterdam is the most diverse, both ethnically and commercially, of all the cities of the Netherlands.  A popular tourist destination, especially for Europeans looking for a vacation spot, Amsterdam is widely recognized for its open policy regarding pot smoking, its famed “red light” district, and for its myriad nightlife options.

Juicy burger

The city’s diversity is on ample display in the number and variety of restaurants spread out all over town, and it can be difficult to know exactly where to go to find the food that one craves.  For those of you that are desperate for the simplicity of a well-prepared hamburger, eschew finding the nearest fast food restaurant, and check out these three privately owned shops.

#1 Burger Meester

Pronounced Burger “MAY-ster”, this shop is the undisputed burger champ in town.  They only use the best ingredients, including free-range meat and organic, locally grown vegetables.  Not content to simply serve beef, the menu includes lamb burgers with piri-piri mayo, herbed beef burgers with grilled vegetables, and a range of options for vegetarians, including falafel burgers with grilled vegetables and goat cheese burgers with eggplant.  Burgers can be purchased full size or in miniature versions and range from 3.50 to 7 Euro.

#2  Burger Bar

Originally at just one location in Kolsteeg, the Burger Bar opened a second location just last year in order to satisfy demand.  With multiple types of fresh bread, and a range of high quality meats on offer, the Burger Bar has gained a loyal following.  Burger Bar patrons can choose from Prime Irish Beef, US Prime Aged Black Angus Beef, or gourmet Wagyu Beef, as well as a huge range of condiments, including goat cheese, avocado, and pineapple.  Burger Bar also serves vegetarian Portobello burgers and Belgian fries.  Prices range from 5 to 12 Euro.
