Best time to visit

Amsterdam is the Capital of The Netherlands, which is located in Western Europe, on the border of Belgium to the south and Germany towards the east. Boasting a population of over 750,000, it is the country’s largest city and attracts more than 3.5 million foreign visitors annually.

The warmest weather in Amsterdam occurs between June and August when temperatures can range from 21 to 26 degrees Celsius. The overall climate is relatively mild and extreme weather is uncommon with average humidity. What is common; however, is fog in the autumn between the months of October and March. Amsterdam is beautiful no matter what tome of year it is.  

Try not to miss

Although anytime is a good time to visit Amsterdam, the peak of the tourism season falls between the end of June all the way through July and to the end of August because the weather is warmest then. Generally, if a Dutch holiday coincides with your visit it can definitely enhance your experience, especially since a number of such holidays are observed with parades and other special traditions that give deeper insight into Dutch culture. Other delightful attractions include The Dutch cultural season which peaks between September and May and the bulb fields near Amsterdam that explode with color from mid-April to mid-May which is, in fact during the off-season, a clear indication that anytime is the best time to visit Amsterdam.  

Longest queues

Due to the fact that the peak of the tourism season occurs between July and August, the longest queues also exist for this same period. It stands to reason that with the influx of tourists and the excitement of all there is to see and do, there will be long queues to attractions. Before getting to the point of enjoying these attractions, one must first plan ahead and make arrangements early enough and include everything. Luckily, Amsterdam Airport offers return non-stop flights to many major countries and cities in Europe as well as flights with one stop over to other countries worldwide, including Asia. Bookings should be made a few months in advance in order to avoid inconvenience.  

Cheapest months to visit

Ironically, the cheapest months may also potentially offer the more enjoyable experience for the slower paced visitor. While the period between mid-September and March is considered to be the off season or the slow season it certainly has its advantages, not the least of which is cheaper prices on everything from airline tickets to hotel accommodations to taxi fares. Another way to enjoy the cheap months to visit Amsterdam is to experience the dining which is in fact cheaper at this time. Also the service is a lot more relaxed and friendly as there is not the same demand as during the peak season. Finally, also because as previously mentioned, the bulb fields near Amsterdam are a sight to behold at this time and tourist who visit during the peak of the tourism season do not get to witness this beautiful spectacle it is reserved for off season visitors.
