Who could have foreseen the far-reaching effect of one young girl’s eloquent tale? That is, of course, the story of Anne Frank, a story that has captured the hearts and minds of millions. Those who were touched by the book will, no doubt, want to visit this monument – Anne Frank House, the very house where she hid with family and friends prior to their capture by occupying Nazi forces.

Located on Prinsengracht, one of the longest canals in Amsterdam, this charming four storey house is a must for the history buffs. Once serving as the office building for Anne Frank’s father, it later became the quiet little haven where Anne Frank as well as her family and friends hid for nearly 2 years before being captured by the Nazis. Today, it stands as a monument to her life – the walls are lined with extracts from her diary, the small corner that Anne Frank dedicated to pasting family photos still stands to this day and undergoes regular conservation efforts as well as the collection of movie-star pictures that was a source of joy to young Anne Frank.

Why should I go there?
